Monthly Manzanillo Real Estate Review

Happy Holidays from Manzanillo Real Estate Professionals (MREP) to our friends of Manzanillo.  Want to provide you an update on Manzanillo happenings.  As I write this at 1130AM, it is 85 degrees and sunny.  Bougainvilleas are in full bloom, coconuts are ready for harvest, iguanas are everywhere, and everything is still very green from the rainy season.   The municipal authorities are busy “fluffing and buffing” the boulevard and other areas in anticipation of the influx of tourists for this high season.  You can tell when it is getting cold north of the border.  We start to see our non-national friends converge on the area, enjoying the tranquil lifestyle and mild climate of Manzanillo.  It is always a pleasure to see the many familiar faces each winter season.

Manzanillo is untouched by the crime related to the drug wars taking place at the Northern border area.  Although, the publicity seems to have impacted plans for many to travel to Mexico .  You can be assured that Manzanillo still maintains its reputation for low crime and unemployment.

Although it appears that the world’s economies are now on an upward spiral to recovery, we have feeling some impact mainly due to the economic situation.  Hotels are not up to par on their occupancy rates, it appears that there are fewer non-national visitors to the area compared to previous years, and there are allot of listings available, many with buyer’s market list prices.  I have been told that the port is experiencing less than normal business presently.  Charter airlines have cancelled some flights due to lack of reservations.  Cruise ships do continue to make port calls to Manzanillo.

As I noted above, there are allot of listings for real estate available.  Many, really good deals are out there.  Check my website at www.manzanillorealestate.com

Manzanillo Real Estate Professionals is on our second year as a member of the Mexican Association of Real Estate Professionals (AMPI) and the National Association of Realtors (NAR).  AMPI is a nation-wide organization formed in 1956 and is similar to NAR in Canada and the U.S.   Manzanillo opened our chapter of AMPI two years ago to leverage highest standards and legitimacy of member real estate companies in the area.  AMPI is guided by a strict code of professional ethics.   In order to be accepted as an AMPI member, companies must have a good reputation for ethical and knowledgeable standards as well as be properly registered to operate legally in Mexico .  We have a Board of Directors that will meet and resolve reported complaints about member performance.   Look for the AMPI logo for any real estate company interaction.

The Salagua district continues its building boom.  They just completed construction of another Vaqueros Restaurant and an Auto Zone car parts store.   Toscano’s recently completed some restaurant remodeling.  Gold’s gym in the Playa Azul area is in full swing.   Santiago is maintaining its authentic Mexican shopping districts with no new projects sprouting up.  There is a new restaurant that recently opened named Schooners.  It is located across the boulevard from CAPDAM on top of the hill, near the PEMEX gas station.  Try it, you’ll like it and their prices are good.

Stop by the office next time you are in town.

Please enjoy your Holidays.

Saludos y Best regards,

Bob Findley
